Melton Mowbray Pork Pies

Melton Mowbray Pork Pies

Sunday 6th April 2008

Melton Mowbray pork pies - that is, pies made to a traditional recipe and within the vicinity of the Leicestershire town - will be protected from imitators by EU law, unless another member state objects before October 4th. This might eliminate some current manufacturers from using the name, as one of the rules is that pies must be baked without side supports (i.e. moulds) - leading to a more rounded pie than many of those manufactured at the present time.
