Gourmet Britain tries to be completely non-political, but while we are all wrapped up in worrying about the economy, the EU is seeking more powers to liberalise the use of many GM foods.
This seemingly has the backing of Caroline Spelman from the Ministry of Environment – who we believe is a former director of a biotech lobbying firm.
This should be taken very seriously, as Russia has released information from its ongoing GM research programme – part of which has been feeding hamsters GM soya in various control groups.
Those fed the GM crop had a slower than normal rate of growth, failed to breed and grew hair in their mouths.
If this worries you we suggest you contact your MP as a matter of urgency and before it is too late. If the GM supporters have their way many of these crops will be commonplace here, their seeds spreading in the wind (so making non GM growing & organic crops impossible to protect).
