Prestigious award for unfashionable retailer

Tuesday 22nd June 2010

The Co-operative Group has been named Green Supermarket of the Year 2010, beating off competition from Morrisons, Ocado and Tesco.

It should be remembered that the organisation is the countries largest farmer, and as well as being leaders in environmental packaging they are one of the largest consumers of green electricity in the world, with 98% of the electricity used on their sites being obtained from wind & hydro power.

While the organisation is disjointed - so shops vary enormously in what they offer from region to region - the best bare comparision with any other supermarket, being strong supporters of local produce.

If you feel we haven't listed some of the better branches, please let us know.
