A report by the Department for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs has issued figures revealing that food prices have risen at twice the rate in the UK as the EU average over the last 3 years.
8.1% between June 2007 & 2010 in fact, 2.7 times more than the increase in France. The regular shopper in the household might be surprised this hasn't been highlighed much earlier, as with the fall in the pound, imported items such as Kenyian beans are now beyond the reach of many - while the £2.99 bottle of plonk is an item well in the past!
