Friday 30th December 2005The results of a survey, conducted by The Compassion in World Farmng Trust, has just been published. This rated British supermarkets on the percentage of chickens and pigs had been confined to excessively small living areas. Some are still selling pigs/pork that have been reared on 'stall farms' - these have been banned for British pigs since 1999 (but not in some other countries). Waitrose faired best - scoring 49.3 out of 60 - Asda worst with 20.8 out of 60. If the living conditions of some of these animals was witnessed, their meat might be hard to swallow - this also applies to the eggs from battery chickens.
