Cicero, Marcus Tullius (106-43 BC)

A Roman orator, writer, and statesman. His speeches, and philosophical rhetorical works are models of Latin prose, and his letters provide a picture of contemporary Roman life.

He is said to have said "Hunger is the best sauce"; a phrase picked up by Louis XIV (the French "Sun King" 1638-1715).
