Cod liver oil
Cod liver oil: Oil extracted from fresh cod liver by heating, cooling and processing. It's rich in vitamins A and D and in Omega-3 fatty acids.
Pure cod liver oil has been a traditional remedy for both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis arthritis since the early nineteen hundreds. Unlike normal fats, which are first absorbed by the liver, the tiny droplets of cod liver oil go directly into the blood and can readily reach the joint linings. In these linings, the oil is converted to mucin and hyaluronic acid, two by-products that thicken the joint fluid and help prevent bone friction at the joints.
Recent research, carried out in Norway, compared the intelligence of four-year-old children, when there mother's had been given 10ml of cod liver oil from the eighteenth week of pregnancy, until three months after they given birth. Children reared on this oil were found to solve problems and process information better than the base sample - who had been taking a corn oil supplement. See'Cod'; 'Omega-3 Fatty Acids'
