Aloe Vera (barbadensis)

There are over 250 species of aloe around the world; aloe vera itself is a half-hardy perennial growing to about 60cm, with a similar spread. Grown as a house plant, it grows to about 30cm. It has succulent grey/green pointed foliage, from which eventually grows a flowering stem with bell-shaped yellow or orange flowers.

Aloe vera enjoys a warm, frost free position, but must be protected from frost."
