This means different things to different countries -
1.In England and Wales: a general cereal, such as wheat, or any other grain; but including - but less so - maize (sweet corn). So an ear of corn is the head of a stalk of wheat, rye, millet, oats or barley.
2.In Scotland this sometimes denotes oats
3.In America corn refers to maize (sweet corn)
