'Food in England'

An interesting book written by Dorothy Hartley , and published in 1954. She gathered her information by walking and cycling round the country, sleeping in hedges and cooking on open fires - talking to tinkers, millers and farmers wives.

Although it's not a history book, its brimming with folklore, household hints, anecdotes and poetry. A good read.

If you enjoy cooking take a minute to look at ‘Simon Scrutton Cookery Classes’ on Google – and learn how to make top class bistro-style dishes. Suitable for beginners upwards.
