Top-class artisan cheese makers Kevin & Alison Blunt, feel into their craft almost by accident, having inherited a few goats which came with their smallholding during the 1980's. This started a love affair, and they now have over 200 (milking takes about 5 hours), and are one of Britain's most respected goats cheese producers.
They have divided their goats into two herds, so have spring and autumn kidding but an even supply of milk.
They make two types of goats cheese 'Chabis' and 'Golden Cross' (the latter being made in a larger size called 'Laughton Log'); plus a sheep's cheese 'Flower Marie' made with bought-in ewe's milk.
