Autumn crocus

The flower whose stamens are called saffron. Probably originally coming from the Indian sub-continent and introduce to Spain by the Moors in the 8th century along with rice and sugar. The Spanish in their turn introduce it to Northern Italy in the 15th century. See Saffron.
