Guideline Daily Amounts

In food terms these are the amounts of calories, fat, fibre, salt etc that adults should aim for, and are often simply called GDA's.

The basic daily guidelines are as follows -

1.Fat of all types: Men 95g; Women 70g

2.Saturated Fat: Men 30g; Women 20g

3.Sodium (salt): Men 2.5g; Women 2g

4.Sugars: Men 20g; Women 16g

5.Fibre: Men 70g; Women 50g

6.Calories: Men 2,500 cals; Women 2,000g

Ideally, we should aim to eat 5 helpings of fruit and vegetables a day and plenty of complex carbohydrate (this is most often made-up with bread, pasta, potatoes and rice in the modern British diet). See 'Exercise'
