A tree common in the U.S.A. and various parts of Asia - belonging to the carya family. It provides valuable timber, and all species produce nuts, some varieties of which are edible - such as the pecan (carya pecan), and the shagbark (carya ovata). See 'Pecan'; 'Shagbark'
