A small invertebrate animal whose body is divided into head, thorax, and abdomen. The head always bears a pair of feelers or antennae, and attached to the thorax are three pairs of legs and sometimes one or two pairs of wings.

Some insects are edible (and are a good source of protein) - and indeed considered delicacies; such as locusts and white ants. See 'Locusts'
