Jains and Food
The Jains are a small religious sect, living in India, who practise vegetarianism, and who are prohibited from taking animal life - in any form.
Their diets are so strictly controlled, that many of them wear face-masks to avoid inhaling tiny insects. Life for them becomes yet more difficult, as they try to avoid fruit and vegetables with large seeds and members of the Alliaceac family - that includes garlic and onions is also outlawed.
If you enjoy cooking take a minute to look at ‘Simon Scrutton French Cookery Classes’ on Google – and learn how to make top class bistro-style dishes. Suitable for beginners upwards. Small classes.
