Kir; Canon Félix
A former mayor of Dijon, and French resistance leader, who encouraged the development of blackcurrant cultivation in the Burgundy region and popularised an existing cocktail (which had been drunk for many years in Paris) by increasing the proportion of the locally produced blackcurrant liqueur and mixing it with chilled Aligoté - a local dry white wine/grape type.
The drink became known as Canon Kir, but soon the prefix was dropped.
