Marlin; Blue (Makaira nigricans)
A large fish, belonging to the Istiophoridae family - inhabiting the waters around the Caribbean and Florida, and growing up to about 4 metres. About a quarter of this length is taken up with a "sword" rather like a swordfish, only shorter.
If you come across one on your fishmongers slab, treat as a swordfish (i.e. marinate and grill as steaks - although the flesh is less highly regarded. They are sometimes available smoked. See 'Swordfish'
