Marrow/Vegetable Marrow (cucurbita pepo)
A trailing vine, and member of the Cucurbitaceae family, originating in North and South America, it produces large pulpy fruits, used both as a vegetable and for preserves. The species has twenty-seven varieties (including gourds, squash and pumpkins). Young marrows, and those varieties specially developed to be small, are known as courgettes (zucchini in Italy and the U.S.A.).
