Morello (prunus cerasus austera)

A type of small cherry, varying in colour from dark red to almost black. The flesh is bittersweet, and too acid for most palates when eaten raw, but delicious when cooked or preserved in some way or other. The stones are small in proportion to the size of the fruits.
