Murex (Murex)

A gastropoda shellfish of the muricidae family, living in the Mediterranean, and in the Atlantic as far north as the Bay of Biscay. If you find some on your fishmongers slab, they make excellent eating; but need gently boiling for 15 minutes, before being removed from their shells - mayonnaise makes an ideal accompaniment. See 'Gastropoda'

If you enjoy cooking take a minute to look at ‘Simon Scrutton French Cookery Classes’ on Google – and learn how to make top class bistro-style dishes. Suitable for beginners upwards. Small classes.
