Mussel; Horse (Modiolus modiolus)

A type of mussel generally around 15cm long, but sometimes longer, and found right across the North Atlantic and the North Pacific.

It"s not considered to be as good as the "mussel" and considered coarse-eating by many.

They can, however, be cooked in all ways suitable for mussels. They are known as "clabbydoo" in Glasgow - from the Gaelic clab-dubh, meaning black mouth.
