Nectarine (prunus perica var. nectarina)
It was once thought that the nectarine was a cross between a peach and a plum, but scientific evidence has rejected this theory. It seems certain both strains originated in China. Nectarine flesh varies in colour from white, through yellow to red - the white varieties being easy to bruise.
