Onion (Allium)

A common bulb vegetable with juicy flesh and a pungent vapour. Used in savoury dishes.
As a general rule, the hotter the climate the onions are grown in, the milder they are - so the frequently-found Spanish varieties are milder than home produced onions. See 'Onions, Culinary uses'; 'Onions, keeping'; 'Onions, Medicinal uses'; 'Tree Onion'

If you enjoy cooking take a minute to look at ‘Simon Scrutton French Cookery Classes’ on Google – and learn how to make top class bistro-style dishes. Suitable for beginners upwards. Small classes.
