A liquorice or aniseed flavoured liqueur, traditional in the area around Marseille, in France. The most famous brands are Pernod and Ricard. Pastis should be diluted in water in a ratio of about one part to five - it will then turn milky. The drink is related to absinthe, but lower in alcohol.
