Belladonna; Medicinal uses

Belladona contains several alkaloids, including atropine, which relieves ashma; hyoscyiamine - which induces sleep, but can cause paralysis; belladonine - which is a narcotic and pain killer; and scopolamine - another painkiller which reduces high blood pressure. Belladona is available on prescription in tinctures and extracts and should only be taken under medical supervision. See 'Alkaloids'; 'Belladonna'
