Bioavailability

A term that specifies to what extent various micronutrients in food are absorbed by the body.

There are a number of factors that can influence bioavailability - such as ageing, food processing, reduced digestive secretions and a shortage of enzymes in the body. Some nutrients also inhibit or increase the absorption of other nutrients.
