Shallot (Allium Cepa)

A small member of the onion family, with a distinctive, more delicate, flavour.

They are an essential ingredient if making French-style sauces of the highest quality. Shallots are round in shape, resembling a pickling onion, but are generally divided into two or three 'cloves', which separate-out. Their cousin, the 'banana shallot' is an elongated, slightly milder variety.
