The Middle English (Middle Ages) name for a puny person, which came from the Schrimpfen of Middle High German - this meant "shrink".

The name of the small crustacean derives from shrimpe, not the oter way round. German"s now call shrimps Garnelen. See "Crustacean"; "Shrimp"
