Star fruit (Averrhoa Carambola)

A fluted, yellow, waxy tropical fruit with a pleasant sweet and sour flavour. It is actually the fruit of the carambola tree, which mainly grows in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The fruit is good in fruit salads, but the ridges on the fruit are better removed before the fruit is eaten fresh, although it can also be cooked.

If you enjoy cooking take a minute to look at ‘Simon Scrutton French Cookery Classes’ on Google – and learn how to make top class bistro-style dishes. Suitable for beginners upwards. Small classes.
