These were originally little sweet meats served at the end of formal meals in Russia. They are now more often something light served before a meal, usually with vodka, or as a snack in a "zakusochnaya" stand-up bar. Items Might include pickles, marinated vegetables, smoked fish, salads and caviar. Known as zakaski in Poland.
