Broccoli (Brassica oleracea Var. Cymosa group)

It is thought that in relatively modern history, broccoli was introduced to Italy from the Eastern Mediterranean in the 17th century; although this might have been a re-introduction, as Apicus wrote in Roman times of the son of Tiberius had a penchant for something resembling boiled broccoli - and the word comes from the Latin Bracchium (meaning arm, or branch).
