Black Forest Gateau

A German cake, called Schwarzwalder Kirchtorte, consisting of layers of chocolate cake, layered with whipped cream and pitted black cherries. It's traditionally flavoured with kirsch (cherry liquour) and decorated with more whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Te cake was probably first made in Berlin in the 1930's.
