Burdock (Arctium Lappa)

A plant belonging to the 'Compositae' family - so related to the daisy. It's often grown as a vegetable, for its roots - and is particularly popular in Japan, where it's known as 'gobo'.

In Britain, it was popular to make a soft drink ' Danelion and Burdock', which resembles/resembles American root beer. It's now seldom seen.

The young shots of the burdock can also be eaten, and should be treated like asparagus.
