Crab; Spider/Spiny (Maia Squinado)

A crab common around Britain's shores, particularly in the West Country. Fully-grown, they measure about 20cm/8 ins across, but most of this taken up by their long thin legs.

Their meat is excellent for anyone patient enough to take the trouble. Unfortunately, not many people in Britain do, and most caught are shipped to France and Spain.

If you enjoy cooking take a minute to look at ‘Simon Scrutton French Cookery Classes’ on Google – and learn how to make top class bistro-style dishes. Suitable for beginners upwards. Small classes.
