This is considered unsuitable to eat in Britain - as we have an aversion eating anything we might regard as a pet. But in some parts of Europe (particularly Belgium, France and Sweden) horse, donkey and mule are all sold for human consumption under the banner 'horsemeat'.

The meat itself is lower in calories than beef, but spoils more quickly. It's said to have a slightly sweet taste.
