Puffball (Lycoperdon Giganteum)

An edible fungus that grows in Britain and Northern Europe. Puffballs can grow up to the size of a football, but medium-sized specimens are the best.

They are best when sliced, then dipped in beaten egg and breadcrumbs and fried in butter. They are also a pleasant addition to a salad, if sliced raw.

If you enjoy cooking take a minute to look at ‘Simon Scrutton French Cookery Classes’ on Google – and learn how to make top class bistro-style dishes. Suitable for beginners upwards. Small classes.
