Wels (Silurus Glanis)

A type of catfish, inhabiting the inland fresh waters of central and eastern Europe. They grow up to about 2 metres/ 7 ft in size, although 1 metre/40 ins is more normal. They make very good eating, but are unlikely to be found at your British fishmonger.
