Martha, Saint (?-c.80AD)
The patron saint of cooks. Martha was almost certainly the sister of Mary Magdalene and Lazarus - and thought to have been the eldest. She lived with them in Bethany, a small town near Jerusalem. Jesus reputedly visited their home often. After his death, all three are thought to have moved to what is now the South of France; and Martha, herself, is venerated in Provence - particularly in Aix and Tarsacon.
