Gout

A disease/condition, the symptoms of which are caused by an excess of uric acid (C5H4N4O3) in the blood. This forms crystals in one or more joints, causing pain and inflammation. It more commonly occurs in men, and if constantly re-occurring, the high levels of uric acid can cause damage to the kidneys.

Gout has been associated with high consumptions of alcohol and rich foods, and while this may be partly true - an element of inherited biochemical abnormalities also contributes. Indeed, teetotallers and vegetarians also suffer the condition. Nettle tea, is said to be a good remedy.
