Freedom Food

In 1994 the RSPCA set up this farm welfare monitoring and labelling scheme. Essentially, a set of standards were established which would establish a minimum level of care for animals reared for food. The five basic areas the standards are directed towards should permit animals to have freedom from -

1.fear and distress

2.pain, injury and disease

3.hunger and thirst

4.discomfort and

5.the ability to display their normal behaviour.
