A large aquatic carnivorous reptile, related to alligators. They have powerful tails that propel them along when they swim. They can live for up to 100 years, and grow up to20 feet'6 metres in length. Of culinary interest, they have been farmed, originally in Queensland, for their meat and skins, the former is white, with a neutral taste - rather like chicken.
