A traditional British sweet, based on liquorice (and coming in various shapes and colours) - introduced by Bassett's in 1899. The story is, that the Bassett's salesman, Charlie Thompson, dropped his regular delivery - so they became muddled - the buyer liked the mixed arrangement, and put in an instant order. They have been popular ever since. The company is now owned by Cadbury.
