St. Martha

The patron saint of servants, and along with St Laurence, the patron saint of cooks. Jesus was a frequent guest at her house, at Bethany, a village 2 miles from Jerusalem. On one such visit, she was rewarded for her faith, when Jesus restored her brother, who had died, to life. She is reputed to have accompanied Mary Magdalene to evangelise France after Penecost. Her feast day is 29th July.
