Reading Farmers MarketThe Cattle Market, Great Knollys Street, Reading, RG7 2BH
It is generally accepted by most farmers' markets that stall holders must have grown, bred, caught, pickled, brewed or baked the goods themselves. Their main emphasis is to help local producers and processors to sell their goods directly to the public, near their source of origin.
The selection of goods available will vary with the season and location. However, you are likely to find a delicious selection of vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, bread and cakes, fruit juices and dairy products.
In late summer and autumn months, there's a stall from Cross Lanes Fruit Farm offering as many of 40 varieties of apple plus much more; and another from Benson's Fruit Juices of Sherborne - both are excellent. Rangers Organics often have a presence, selling their excellent organic beef, reared locally. There is often an excellent stall offering fresh trout - both brown and rainbow from Brookleas Fish Farm.
- Open: Held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month; between 8.30-12.00
