An excellent farmers market, drawing top-suppliers around from many miles around, and certainly not to be missed if you're in Edinburgh at the weekend.
It is generally accepted by most farmers' markets that stall holders must have grown, bred, caught, pickled, brewed or baked the goods themselves. Their main emphasis is to help local producers and processors to sell their goods directly to the public, near their source of origin.
The selection of goods available will vary with the season and location. However, you are likely to find a delicious selection of vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, bread and cakes, fruit juices and dairy products.
The list of those often having stalls is too long to list, but there's generally a stall selling organic Aberdeen Angus beef and organic Black Faced lamb from Mrs Hamilton's Organic Beef & Lamb; plus excellent bacon, chorizo, sausages and pork from rare-breed Piperfield Pork; and there is generally another offering free-rage wild boar from Hilton Farm. As well as fresh meat they sell wild boar salami, air-dried ham and sausages.
