What did you like about the Food Shop?
Albert Rees have a stall in Brecon market hall on Tuesdays and Fridays. I have been buying huge lumps of their wonderful home-churned butter, their smoked cheddar, home dry-cured bacons, and much more, since stumbling upon them when I first moved to the town a couple of years ago. I can honestly say they are utterly brilliant at what they do. They are also pretty much the last custodian of the recipe for Carmarthen Ham, an air dried ham, which apparently was taken back to Italy by the Romans and which gave rise to Parma Ham.
Please, please, I exhort you, take the trouble to go and see these guys, and buy as much as you can of their wonderful produce whilst they still exist. They're utterly unpretentious (nothing of the 'foodie' about them - just good produce) and really great value, and they're very friendly and really rather funny to boot - get down to see them to buy and get some quality banter!
