Gourmet Britain Award System - Posted 6th September 2009

We have introduced a 4 stage scoring system to help you choose where to eat. 'Useful in the Area' means just that, good, but not worth a special trip; 1 Star (among the best in the neighbourhood), 2 Stars (worth a special trip) and 3 Stars (among the best in the country).

Our marks are given purely for the standard of food offered, 'visuals' on the plate (such as foam) fooling many should not be mistaken for quality. Likewise, it would be possible for an establishment to be awarded 3 stars and have bare floor boards and the minimum of napery.

But please bear in mind, that a 1 star Café or Fish & Chip Shop , shouldn't be directly compared to a 1 star Restaurant - but be judged on its aims.

We always need your constructive comments on any food-related business you visit.
