A family-run company, started by Elizabeth Botham in 1865. Botham's make and supply excellent biscuits - such as 'chocolate chip' or 'ginger'; 'Plum bread' from a traditional recipe, as well as Yorkshire 'Bracks' - which are cakes containing tea and flavoured with fruit or ginger. They are also the only source we have found of Japs/Japonaise (traditional layered macaroon/nut cakes. Their products have had excellent reviews from the national press, and make good presents for sending overseas, as they have a good shelf life.
Pork pies, made with free-range pork from Charles Ashbridge of Cold Kirby, are particularly recommended. A Mail Order service operates.
