The Winner of The Gourmet Britain "Best Independently-Owned Food Shop" Award 2012
This family-run village 'supermarket'/deli also produces excellent 'Suffolk' ham (from free-range pigs) which held the Queen Mothers warrant.
Ham of this type is sweet-cured in mixture that includes black treacle and stout. After curing they are lightly smoked over oak, before being allowed to mature for over a month; before being offered vacuum-packed as either whole or half hams.
They also produce delicious sweet-pickled bacon - which is highly recommended. Plus an expanding selection of top-quality items ranging from Suffolk Apple Juice and Honey to Fruit-Dipped Chocolates, Olives (and their oil) and Devil's on Horseback.
But they also offer an expanding list of carefully-sourced deli products, including some hard to find items - so a look at their website is thoroughly recommended.
At Christmas, they produce two additional sweet-pickled hams - one port, the other cider, based; and also offer Christmas hampers.
If you're in the neighbourhood, a visit - particularly one involving a purchase of their bacon - is not to be missed.
